The four-time Oscar candidate, whose passing at 78 years of age was reported on Jan. 16, was a dad of four. He invited his children — Jennifer, Austin, Riley and Lula — with exes Peggy Reavey, Mary Fisk and Mary Sweeney and alienated spouse Emily Stofle, who sought legal separation in 2023.
On Jan. 16, his family shared the insight about his demise in a Facebook post, saying, "It is with profound lament that we, his family, declare the death of the man and the craftsman, David Lynch."

"There's a major opening on the planet now that he's no longer with us," the post proceeded. "In any case, as he would agree, 'Watch out for the doughnut and not on the opening.' "
During a June 2018 discussion with Vulture, the chief, who was most popular for making the 1990 TV series Twin Pinnacles, drilled down into the "interesting business" of parenthood.
"I love every one of my kids and we get along perfect, yet in the early years, before you can have a relationship of conversing with them, it's extreme," he said. "The work is the central thing, and I realize I've caused enduring hence. And yet I have enormous love for the children."
