U.S. House approves legislation to deport undocumented immigrants charged with minor crimes
The proposition requires migration specialists to hold and oust settlers accused of violations like robbery, burglary, theft or shoplifting. The bill currently goes to the Senate where conservatives hold the greater part.
The U.S. Place of Agents passed regulation on Tuesday focusing on undocumented migrants for removal in the event that they're accused of peaceful violations like shoplifting.
The Laken Riley Act passed on a 264-159 vote, with 48 liberals joining conservatives — including Texas Popularity based Reps. Henry Cuellar of Laredo and Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen. The proposed regulation presently goes to the Senate on Friday, where conservatives hold the larger part. Conservatives control 53 seats and need seven Senate leftists to cast a ballot in favor for the bill to pass.
The bill is named after Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Augusta College nursing understudy in Georgia who was killed in February 2024 by José Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan man who crossed the U.S.- Mexico line through El Paso in 2022.
Months before the killing, Ibarra was captured on a shoplifting charge at a Georgia Walmart yet was subsequently delivered.
